SharePoint Note column (Multiple lines of text)
Long-form text. Binds to Textarea (plain) or RichText (when Enhanced rich text is enabled on the column).
The Note column type (called "Multiple lines of text" in the SharePoint UI) stores long-form text up to 63,999 characters. It comes in two flavours:
The runtime detects the flavour via the column's RichText flag at
schema reconciliation; the right component renders automatically.
Write shape
Plain JS string. For rich text, the value is HTML.
Edge cases
- Line endings, stored as
\n; rendered list views may convert to<br>. - Append-only Notes, SP supports an "Append changes to existing text" mode where each save adds a new entry rather than overwriting. The runtime respects this and stores both the new entry and the cumulative history.
- Rich-text sanitisation, SharePoint server-side sanitises submitted HTML against its own allow-list, which differs from the editor's. Test edge cases (custom classes, inline styles) before relying on them.
