SharePoint User column (Person)

People-picker column. Stored as a user id; same write shape as Lookup.

The User column (Person or Group in the SP UI) stores a reference to a user or group in the current site. Binds to

User and PersonControl.

Write shape

Same as Lookup, the SP REST API uses the {Field}Id suffix:

For multi:

{ "ReviewersId": { "results": [17, 19, 22] } }

Edge cases

  • Resolving an email, Users referenced by email must be "ensured" in the site collection first. The runtime calls ensureUser automatically before writing.
  • External users, Cross-tenant guest users are supported as long as they appear in the site's User Information List. If they don't, ensure them first.
  • Groups, When the column allows group selection, the same {Field}Id shape applies; the id is the group's id.
