SharePoint DateTime column

Date-only or date + time. Binds to Date, DateTime, or Time fields depending on the column configuration.

The DateTime column stores a date or a date-and-time. The column configuration ("Date Only" vs "Date & Time") controls which.

Write shape

ISO 8601 string (e.g. "2026-05-20T14:30:00Z" or just "2026-05-20").

Edge cases

  • Time zone shift, SP stores everything in the site's regional time zone. Reading via REST returns the time in that zone, not the user's. The Date/DateTime field components strip or normalise the time to avoid this surprise.
  • Date Only with a server-side time, SP still attaches T00:00:00 to the value; this can cause off-by-one day errors when read from a different time zone.
